The main aim of this week was to create a powerpoint presentation on a subject of our choice in groups chosen by our tutor. I was placed into a group with George and Celestine, however, due to my class absence at the beginning of this week, I joined the group on Wednesday and had to catch up really fast. Understanding, researching and creating a powerpoint presentation in a day was challenging. The boys chose a subject that they thought I could come into quickly and easily which was ‘Immersion’. They were speaking about how immersion is achieved within game mechanics and I was to talk about how to keep users immersed within a website. I based my presentation on how I kept users immersed in my web experience so that I was able to relate it back to my work.
The scariest part of the task was having to present this work to a panel of three external speakers. I am usually very confident with presentations, however, I was off my game, tired and distracted, so I don’t feel that I did as well as I could have done. Nevertheless, the panel was interested in my work and seemed pleased with what I achieved. This exercise was a good taster for what to expect in Year 2 when we will be working on more collaborative projects. I like working as part of a team and bouncing ideas of others, it is just a shame I joined this particular project so late.
